Victory War Memorial

A prominent monument in Chennai, the Victoria war memorial is one among the two memorials dedicated to soldiers whose lives were lost in the World Wars. This historic monument is also known as ‘Cupid’s Bow’ and is situated near the Marina beach to the south of Fort St. George.

This monument stands at the starting tip of the Marina Beach. It was first built to commemorate the victory of the Allied nations in World War I and later a marble structure was built here to pay homage to the lives lost during the World war. Today this monument is a memorial for the soldiers who fought during World War II.

After the World Wars, the Indo-Pak war, Kashmir Aggression in 1948 and the Kargil war inscriptions were added in the marble structure. During the Armed Forces Day, Infantry Day, Navy Day and NCC Day the Armed forces of the nation pay customary homage to the Victory War memorial. Being situated at Chennai makes this a popular site among tourists. Many visitors and tourists throng to this monument to pay their respects to the martyrs of war.
