Kambala Festivals - A Celebration of Culture, Courage, and Cattle

Every year, the rural villages of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district in Karnataka organize the Kambala festival, which is a buffalo race. This athletic event takes place from November to March.

This two-day celebration is well-known for its buffalo race and around150 buffaloes have been specifically trained. The event starts with a display of participating buffaloes and throughout the festival, the farmers lead the buffaloes as they race around the racetrack. A joyful occasion that unites communities in Kambala is about more than simply the races. Observing and celebrating the races, people from the surrounding villages congregate. A vibrant and festive environment is often created by traditional music, dancing and cultural performances that go along with the celebration.
