Mukkombu

Also known as upper Anaicut, Mukkombu is a dam located on the Cauvery River in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. The Mukkombu Dam is located at the point where the River Cauvery partitions into two and forms the Kollidam River which flows parallel to the Cauvery and joins with the river creating an island in between.

The Mukkombu was built by Sir Arthur Cotton in the year 1836 to 1838. He was inspired by the Grand Anaicut at Kallanai built by Karikala Cholan in the Tanjavur district. The Mukkombu breaks the two partitions of the river forming the temple island of Srirangam. The Dam itself is located in a beautiful place on the outskirts of the city.

It offers the best view of the river Cauvery in all her glory. There are many attractions near the dam like the children’s park, fishing activities and an amusement park. It is a popular tourist destination frequented by families, friends and tourist.The dam offers the best experience for those who wish to take a break from the daily busy life and stroll around the dam and relax.
