Specialty Of Gandhi Memorial
A must visit place for travellers - Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Mandapam at Kanyakumari, was built to commemorate the father of the nation. Mahatma had visited Kanyakumari in 1925 and 1937 and this Mandapam was built in his memory. After his death, the urn containing his ashes was kept here for public view and later on was mixed with the sea water.
The Mandapam is built based on Oriya architecture and it is said that there is a hole on the roof just above the place where the urn containing Mahatma’s ashes was kept, and on every October 2nd the sun’s rays falls through the hole.
The memorial is open from 7.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. on all days and entry to this place is absolutely free!.
