St. Angelo Fort
St. Angelo Fort, also referred to as Kannur Fort is situated in the Kannur district of Kerala. Poised on the shores of the Arabian Sea, it stands as one of the most picturesque forts in the region. Constructed in 1505 by the first Portuguese Viceroy of India, Dom Francisco de Almeida, in collaboration with the ruling Kolathiri Raja, this fort is affectionately known as Kannur Kota locally.
In 1790, control of the fort transitioned to the British, who designated it as the principal army center in the Malabar region. Today, Kannur Fort stands as a significant historical monument, meticulously preserved under the Archaeological Survey of India.
