Karnataka formerly called Mysore, is a state of India located in the Deccan plateau with Maharastra and Goa to its north, Arabian Sea to the West and the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh around it. It has Bengaluru as its capital which is the IT hub of India.

In the historic times, Karnataka was ruled by many empires such as the Mauryan Dynasty ruled by Empror Ashoka and came under the Nanda Empire. The Vijayanagara Empire which ruled Karnataka and almost all of south India had Hampi as its capital. The official language of the state is Kannada while Hindi and English are widely spoken there.
