This is a journey to a very different part of India.

Exploring the foothills of the Himalaya, spending several Days on a houseboat in beautiful Kashmir and enjoying culture and cuisine unique to this mountainous region. For climatic reasons, this tour can only operate in the summer months of June to September.


Detailed Itineary

  • Day 1 : Arrive at Delhi

    On arrival in Delhi you’ll be met and assisted with the transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Delhi.

  • Day 2 : Leh

    Transfer back to the airport and fly to Leh, where again you will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. As Leh is a high-altitude destination (3500 metres above sea level) we always suggest taking it easy on the first day to allow your body to acclimatize. Free time to relax and explore. Overnight in Leh.

  • Day 3 : Leh

    Leh is famous for its glorious Buddhist monasteries - during your sightseeing day around the town you will visit Shey, Thiksey and Hemis. Overnight in Leh.

  • Day 4 : Leh - Tso Moriri

    Drive via Chumathang to Tso Moriri, a serene and picturesque lake in the Rupsu Valley. This remote valley is home mainly to nomadic herdsmen and is well away from the main tourist trail. Overnight in a deluxe tented camp at Tso Moriri.

  • Day 5 : Tso Moriri

    Explore the area and visit the gompa at nearby Korzok, at the far end of Tso Moriri Lake. By now you should be well accustomed to the high altitude mountain and air and you will be able to enjoy walking and some light trekking around the valley. Overnight in a deluxe tented camp at Tso Moriri.

  • Day 6 : Tso Moriri – Leh

    Drive back to Leh, enjoying the magnificent surroundings of this majestic mountain region. Overnight in Leh.

  • Day 7 : Leh - Nubra Valley

    Drive via Khardung La to the Nubra Valley - the road over the La (Tibetan for ‘pass’) reaches the dizzying height of 5359 metres above sea level, making it one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The Nubra Valley is one of the most beautiful in Ladakh and home to small farms, orchards and occasional flocks of goats. Overnight in a deluxe tented camp in the Nubra Valley.

  • Day 8 : Nubra Valley

    A full day for walking in this sublime and humbling mountain environment - you can easily walk between the small villages, monasteries and Gompas throughout the valley, while your vehicle remains on hand if you would rather be driven. Overnight in a deluxe tented camp, Nubra Valley.

  • Day 9 : Nubra Valley – Leh

    More time for exploring the valley before driving back to Leh in the afternoon. Overnight in Leh..

  • Day 10 : Leh – Uletokpo

    Commence the journey out of Ladakh with a drive to Alchi Monastery and then on to Likir where you can enjoy a 2km stroll to Klu-kkhyil Gompa which is close to 1000 years old. Later drive on to Uletokpo - yet another very scenic area and stay overnight at Uletokpo Resort.

  • Day 11 : Uletokpo – Srinagar

    Morning drive to Lamayuru Monastery and continue on via two more impressive passes- Fotu La (4147metres above sea level) and Namika La (3760m) to Mulbek, where there is a small stupa. Continue on past Kargil to the Kashmir Valley and the summer capital, Srinagar. On arrival in Srinagar you will be met and transferred to a deluxe Houseboat. Overnight on the houseboat.

  • Day 12,13,14 : Srinagar (Dal Lake)

    You will have three full Days based at Srinagar, staying on the houseboat on picturesque Dal Lake, with trips by shikara (water taxi) to explore the city with its fascinating wooden buildings, markets and delightful formal gardens. Life on the Lake itself is rather unique, with many people travelling about by shikara or smaller canoes and most business carried out in floating markets or by merchants who ply their wares from the small boats. Overnight on a deluxe houseboat on Dal Lake.

  • Day 15 : Delhi

    Transfer to Srinagar airport for your flight to Delhi. You will be met on arrival in Delhi and transferred to your hotel, overnight in Delhi.

  • Day 16 : Delhi

    A full day of sightseeing covering Old and New Delhi - a total contrast to pretty much everything you’ve encountered in the preceding Days. India’s capital has too many highlights to cover in a single day, but some of the places you’ll visit include India’s grandest mosque, the Jama Masjid, Humayun’s Tomb and Raj Ghat, the simple but highly evocative memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. Overnight in Delhi.

  • Day 17 : Delhi

    Day free in Delhi before transferring to the airport for your flight home.
