Detailed Itineary

  • Day 1 : Delhi

    Report by 4:30PM at Safdarjung Railway Station for traditional welcome and introduction to your support crew and accommodation. After a welcome drink in the Lounge Bar, the train departs at 18:30 Hrs with dinner on board.

  • Day 2 : Jaipur, The Pink City

    Breakfast is on-board, followed by ceremonial elephant welcome at Jaipur Railway Station. Later visit the City Palace and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Jantar Mantar astronomical observatory. After a brief stop at the Palace Of the Winds, head out to Amber Fort. Lunch is held in the 1135 AD restaurant, located within Fort. Later tour the fort, before heading into the walled city markets for some shopping, return to the train by 18:00 Hrs for departure. Dinner on board the train

  • Day 3 : Ranthambore Tiger Reserve and Chittorgarh

    Arrive around 4am and soon after proceed to a forest lodge from where your safari will take place (in a 15-seater canter safari truck) into Ranthambore National Park. Many species live here, with a sighting of the elusive Bengal tiger the jewel in the crown if you are lucky enough to see one. Return to the train by 10am with lunch on board. Later in the day, around 16:00, the train reaches Chittorgarh. Make an excursion to the UNESCO World Heritage Site at the Hill Fort of Chittorgarh, spread over a huge plateau - with history dating back to 11th century. In the Evening, enjoy Sound and Light show at the fort later return to the train for dinner. Departure in the early hours of Day 4

  • Day 4 : Udaipur, the City of Lakes

    Train arrives by 08:00 with breakfast on board. Later visit the City Palace complex with eleven constituent Mahals, balconies, towers and cupolas and the famous crystal gallery , housing a vast collection belonging to the royal family of Udaipur. After a boat ride on Lake Pichola, lunch will be at the Fateh Prakash Palace Hotel. Time in the early afternoon for shopping before returning to the train by 15:00 for departure. Dinner on board.

  • Day 5 : Jaisalmer

    Arrive early morning. After breakfast head out on a sightseeing tour of Jaisalmer Fort with a leisurely walk through the living fort. The fort is entered through a forbidding series of massive gates leading to a large courtyard. Later visit Patwon ki Haveli, one of the largest and most elaborate mansion houses and a group of 15th century Jain temples nearby. Lunch at a top-end hotel, and after a brief rest back at the train, head out to the Sam Dunes for a camel ride at sunset, followed by a cultural show and dinner, again at a hotel in the city. Return to train by 22:00 and depart.

  • Day 6 : Jodhpur

    Train arrives at 08:00. Breakfast on board then proceed for sightseeing of Mehrangarh Fort, which dominates the skyline of Jodhpur. Tour this extensive and imposing complex, as well as the nearby Jaswant Thada, a cluster of royal cenotaphs in white marble. Lunch is served at Hanwant Mahal Boutique Restaurant. Return to Palace on Wheels train and depart by 15:30. Dinner is served on-board.

  • Day 7 : Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary and Agra

    Arrive early morning and at 06:30 visit Keoladeo Ghana National Park, one of India’s most famous birding sites. Tour the Park by cycle-rickshaw and see how many of the 350+ species which live or migrate here you can spot. Return to the train for breakfast with departure by 08:45. The train will then reach Agra by 10:30, followed by sightseeing around Agra including Agra Fort and, of course, the Taj Mahal. After lunch, there will be free time for shopping, before later returning to the train for onboard dinner and departure.

  • Day 8 : New Delhi Return

    The Palace on Wheels train returns to Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station by 05:30 Hrs - check out by 07:15 Hrs after early breakfast. We will meet you at this point and assist you with further arrangements.
