The sharavathi valley wildlife sanctuary is located in the sagara of Shimoga District, Karnataka, and is divided into three zones, i.e., the buffer zone, the tourism zone, and the core zone. In 1972, the Karnataka government declared the sharavathi river basin to be a protected sanctuary. Since then, increasing forest cover and tourism have taken up a significant portion of the area. The area has a lot of lush, evergreen deciduous forests.
