The sharavathi valley wildlife sanctuary is located in the sagara of Shimoga District, Karnataka, and is divided into three zones, i.e., the buffer zone, the tourism zone, and the core zone. In 1972, the Karnataka government declared the sharavathi river basin to be a protected sanctuary. Since then, increasing forest cover and tourism have taken up a significant portion of the area. The area has a lot of lush, evergreen deciduous forests. It is home to the endangered Lion-tailed macaque and Other mammals include tiger, leopard, wild dog, jackal, sloth bear, spotted deer,sambar,barking deer, mouse deer, wild pig, common langur,bonnet macaque,Malabar giant squirrel, giant flying squirrel, porcupine and so on.
