Raichur

Raichur is situated along the Tungabhadra River banks and its varied topography, which includes rocky and fertile plains. With a history that dates back to the reign of Mauryan King Ashoka in the third century BC, it has a colourful and extensive past. The fact that Emperor Ashoka was referenced by name in the first rock edicts discovered at Maski is attested to by a multitude of inscriptions and rock edicts. Raichur is famous among tourists because of its historical and beautiful architecture and forts. The city is referred to as Raichur Doab in addition to being well-known as Raichur which denotes a region situated between two rivers that run in the same pattern. The name of the city comes perhaps from the River Krishna, which flows in the north, and its branch, the Tungabhadra, which flows in the south.
